My thoughts exactly! On my DMEd car (the 944) I found the relay was hard enough to get to on a nice sunny day , with no traffic thundering past & under no spousal pressure - figured it was best to put in a brand new one and keep the perfectly functioning old one in the glovebox. No reason for it to deteriorate if kept in a sealed bag.
