it's a standard, and they are working on it.
but, no carrier is really motivated to really push it forward, because it means they have to upgrade the entire network and that is expensive.
Especially in this time of crisis and smaller margins .. they want to milk 3G for all it's worth before they toss it in the bin.
And hardly anybody would want to pay more for faster speeds, most people thing it's expensive enough as is.. So there you go, no supply and lack of demand
