I have bought and sold several used sets with the trombone cooler in the $350-600 range. Add $200 for a 28 row cooler, maybe $300 for a Carrera cooler. Even so, these do not "fly off the shelves" at these prices.

If your trombone is the '73-only type, that may be worth a few bucks to the right buyer (concourse type). I don't know how to spot the unique trombone by sight, but someone here or on earlyS will. There was a guy here on pelican looking for one for a while, check the classifieds.
First of all, new targa tops from Porsche are no longer available and haven't been for a while. But your point is well taken. Secondly, it is relevant here to emphasize that the value in the external oil cooler system I have is that it isn't a later model Carrera set-up. Of course its possible to build an oil cooler set-up for an early car with some flex hose and some bent pipe if the goal is simply trying to keep your motor cool at the cheapest possible cost. However, that does not consider the fact that the market is currently valuing the early 911 cars ( and I don't mean SC's Carrera and 993) and the original parts that go into restoring them based upon originality. A later carrera oil cooler, or even a finned elephant racing set-up will definitely hurt the originality and value of an early 911, the same as having a 3.0 SC motor in a 69-73 911 rather than its original motor.
While I appreciate the comments here, I have pretty much answered my own question on this subject. I am located in Germany and I believe I will have better chance of getting what it's worth here if I decide to sell it. The Germans are buying these early cars because of their historical importance and collector value, and the market for a well preserved original example has jumped over the past 5 years. This is also the reason why the early prices in the States have gone up as well. It is the demand from the European market. And the first thing they do when they buy these cars is send them directly to German restoration specialists and have them brought back to their original specs. A Carrera oil cooler is one of the first things that would come off an early car - after the whale tale and the RSR spoiler..... ;-)
