82 is a 220 hp 3 spd auto, 85 is a 288 hp 4 spd auto, but if you feel a BIG difference between them in normal driving something may be out of adjustment on one or both of them. Side by side from a stop, floor them both and the 85 should pull away, but not leave the first car exactly in the dust, just pull away a second or so faster to 60 mph.
Maybe something has been done to give the 85 a snappier feel like aftermarket chips in the brains.
