Dont use the roloc discs on the block, only on the oil pan side. There is no room really to use the discs around the girdle and there is no way to cover everything without getting debris all over the place. I used a razor blade (carefully) and liberal amounts of brake cleaner to clean the block mating surface. A brillo pad would work well also. There should not be much stuff to clean off as the gasket is rubber, at most you will get some leftover silastic sealant on the corners of the pan from the factory which cleans up easily.

On the pan side, the roloc discs make quick work of everything.
