Bad example I know of. My wifes niece who is now 21 has had minor brushes with law since she was 15. No father around, mother always worked in bars and clubs with bad hours. She wasn't much of a parent either. Her living arrangements are always sketchy moving from one friend or family member to another. Even at one point moving from here to west-by-God Tennessee for a while recently.

She barely graduated from high school, has had no real direction. She hasn't kept a job be it part-time or full time for more than 2 months.

Recently she saw an ad on TV from a for profit school for a Criminal Justice degree. She went, applied and was approved for a student govt loan for @$22K - even though at the time she was un-employed and had no transportation. The school is @40 miles each way from her house.

Other thing is that even if she does finish the program, I would imagine her past record will dis-qualify her from anything other than a night security job ..........if then.
