she's trying to refinance or the house, that's why this is coming up.
some types of liens don't need to be renewed (like a mortgage lien), others do (like judgment liens or mechanics liens).
for the ones that need to be renewed, states vary quite a bit on how long they are good for. judgment liens can be good for 10 years or more without renewal.
Mechanics liens may need to renewed yearly.
