any gas overflow from the tank goes to the cannister that is full of charcoal. The liquid then vaporizes and is fed back into the throttle bodies by way of the solenoid. it is just a way of keeping the excess gasoline out of the environment. you won't notice any difference with or without other than maybe no gasoline puddles under the bike after a fill-up
