Chain emails get posted here quite often. Some PPOTers routinely post chain-mail stuff - usually political in nature - without having any idea if it is true or false. When they are run through Snopes or similar fact-checking websites, those emails frequently turn out to be false. The original poster usually slinks away, never acknowledges having give the rest of us false information, which seems a bit weird to me - if I misled my friends, I'd express some regret about it.
This happens so often that I assume those posters - like you, Joe - don't have a fact-checking website that you use. If you do, then please point us to it.
