Having my car painted and, of course, found rust in the rocker panels.

is there a difference between a cosmetic fix and a stronger structural fix?

Once it's painted who knows what was done. Should I pay particular attention to make sure the right gage steel etc is used? Any advantage to beefing up the repair to make it stronger then new?
