High sided on a turn, back of the head whiplashed on the pavement. Top of a mountain road here in SLO. I don't really remember much else about the crash other than I was really f***ed up. The rear wheel was potat-chipped but it was good enough for me to ride the miles back to the car and drive myself to the school health center, where they then took me away in an ambulance.
My shirt was all torn up and bloody. I had facial cuts that bled profusely. And so on.
I had to spend a night or two in the hospital and hated it. I walked out a day or so later and bought a helmet. Back on the bike the next week I think. It was right around Halloween so I fit right in as I was walking back in my torn, bloody shirt with bandages all over.
