Maybe if you think things are tougher, you should read about some of the earlier ways of dissolving disputes. Duels, jousting, beheadings, guillotines, crucification, drowning, hangings, burying alive, burning, etc.

I hate to say it but I agree with dipso... the big difference is now we have bloodthirsty media scrambling for ratings that rush to publish every despicable deed.
You guys think things are bad today?
You need to study history... humankind has done some pretty horrible things to each other over the years. A quick look at the middle ages for instance... entire villages killed, people thrown in jail and tortured just because some royal didn't like them, or disagreed with something they said.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg.
