Well if the internet was down for the whole time until the paper was due I guess I'd have to actually read the book.

For engineering stuff you need to or end up memorizing a lot of things and you can't just read Wiki to really understand it, though the Wiki stuff can really be very high-level once you have a class in it and can understand what they are saying.

I takes orders of magnitude longer to do engineering without a calculator. Now a computer with MATLAB is becoming another computer. And with FEA it is to the point that computers are the only realistic way to solve many problems.
