Hummer II, interesting story
I was talking to Bruce Canepa this weekend, he restores Porsche race cars, 959's and produces wildly modified Suburbans and now Hummer II's. They are beautiful when he's finished with them, very pricey as well.
Apparantly, the Hummer people built an entirely new assembly line next door to the regular Hummer plant. They negotiated a new contract with employees, lower hourly wage with benefits, and used an existing heavy duty truck frame (not a Suburban frame). They kept their costs down so well that they can build the Hummer II for 19,000. They wholesale it for 44,000.00.
Retail is 55K+. That makes it an extremely profitable vehicle.
So, buy a Hummer-save the economy.
Wonder what Porsche's margin is on the Cayenne?
