I did the rear bumper of my S-10 that way (rattle can plastic coat).
Not as durable as you would think, but maybe my prep was bad. I climbed up the bumper a few months after application, and the edge where my shoe was just pealed off. A spot of surface rust formed there soon after.
I have to re-do the whole thing now. Some idiot rear ended me a few weeks ago.
