When I ask how much that'll cover, I sometimes get significantly varying answers. "Oh, a ton of those Mexican pebbles will cover about 35 sq ft." or "Oh, about 80 sq ft."
The thing you need to decide on is the depth of your stone. Let's say you want to cover 240 sq. ft of area, with a 3" deep layer of gravel. 3" = 1/4 ft. So, you need 240 x 1/4 = 60 cubic ft. of gravel.

If they sell it by the "yard," they mean cubic yard. A cubic yard is 3 x 3 x3 = 27 cubic ft. So, your 60 cubic feet = 60/27 = 2.22 yards of gravel. You probably need to round it up to the next higher yard, so you'd buy 3 yards of gravel for this example, and spread it on a little thick.

I hope this explanation/example helps you, Noah.
