That's really sad. I too was really hoping for a happy ending.
Hopefully the car was well insured so that at least the purely financial part of your loss is manageable.
If it were me, my goal would be to get/rebuild a car that was even better than it was. Even though the original was beautiful, I'm sure there is something that could be upgraded: get a small bumper early car, or a turbo -- whatever.
It's that kind of thinking that got me into classic cars a couple of years ago: when my Toyota Camry got stolen (I know, not the same thing!), I said to myself, I can either simply replace it, and stomach the loss, or else use it as an opportunity to get something really cool. That line of thinking led eventually to my 911....
