Acetone is not for a few spots that are .020 thick. You are right to pick them off as you can with a plastic tool or a small, small blunt edge. Just knock them off sideways.

For those that won't come off, you may have to resort to chemicals or polishing compounds. Search removing+paint and several threads will come up in various forums here and elsewhere.
