I realize you already plan a trip to Oświęcim (Germans call it Auschwitz). I was there many years ago with three Americans and a very good Polish friend. The tour lasted several hours. I think we spoke a total of ten words to each other the entire time. The entire place still felt like death was hanging over it. We saw two of the three camps originally part of complex. Some of the images still haunt me (room with the glasses, luggage, hair, etc.). Sobering, but worthwhile. The only thing my good friend could say afterward was, I can't believe this happened in my country. He was humbled/embarrassed.
Kraków is also a great place to spend some time. Interesting tradition involving the musician in the tower ... you'll find out.
Praha is amazing - prolly one of my favorite places I've been in Europe.
