If a V8 into a 911 is such sacriledge to all those Porsche purists, I wonder what they'll think of my VW Type 1 2.1 liter stroker swap into my '66 912? With a 36hp non-fresh-air fan shroud and dual Webers, it'll take a REAL close look by a knowledgable fanatic to realize it's not a honest 356C/912 motor, plus it'll put out 150+ hp all day long, and is a heck of a lot cheaper to build and maintain-while still being an air-cooled, flat four based on an engine designed by none other than Dr. Porsche himself. So, it's not an original 912-it was one step away from the junkyard when I acquired it (without the motor), 912's are not really that rare or highly prized, and I'm (sorta) sticking with the Porsche ideals of light weight, simple mechanicals, and German engineering-will the purists overlook my faux pax of a non-original engine in my car? Do I care? Hmmmmmm-does Renegade Hybrids make a kit to swap in a 5.0 Ford? Now THAT'D be cool.....
