I was fairly into comics in my teens, transitioned to more mature titles in my 20s and dropped them altogether in my early 30s. My early favorites were Spider-Man, Iron Man and the Flash. I had issues 1 to 100 of Spider-Man, so I got a nice chunk of change when I sold my collection - even so, they're worth crazy money now and I still want to kick myself.
I got into Iron Man during the Michelinie/Layton years and dropped him when they left, but those years appear to have defined the direction of the character ever since. Those were the years that fleshed out the Tony Stark character (including making him an alcoholic), added the specialty armors for various environments, and increased his rogues gallery.
I dropped the Flash when Barry Allen died.
I went with more philosophical titles later, with my favorite being three year run of The Question by Denny O'Neil/Denys Kowan. I read Sandman and Constantine when they first came out, but eventually tired of them and sold them off. It's funny, when I sold the original Sandman issues, the guy was so suspicious - the idea of someone selling them seemed so odd to him. I also liked the odd but unsuccessul Miracleman series by Alan Moore, though he explores the same themes (has the man written something where a character - usually male - doesn't get raped?).
I'm still waiting for Matt Wagner to finish Mage.
