One of my pet peeves about this (and many other) boards is that many people omit their location. It makes it MUCH harder to formulate an answer. In the SF area there are 1-2 get togethers every week where you can see and learn; in Timbuktu you might be lucky to have two 911s within 1,000km.
You seem to lean to the 964; do you know how different they are from the 911? There are pluses and minuses.
Main advice #1, even before a PPI. SLOW DOWN! You have wanted one for years. Now you can afford one. You can still afford it six months from now! The only differences are that you will have had the fun of gaining knowledge and refining your taste, and you will have increased the chances of buying the right car (for you) from 1/50 to 1/5.
