I don't know anything about the headhunting business. In this economy, I think more and more people are needing the help of a good headhunter.

Because her PhD is in literature, my first thought was of James Kilpatrick, the late great author ("The Writer's Art"), nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, and grammarian. He had quite a following, and he is dearly missed. With your wife's unique background, she could start a similar column or blog, and transition that into something that is uniquely hers. We need people to take a stand for the beauty and evolution of the English language.

She is an editor / analyst through and through so creative writing like blogging is not a natural fit for her but would probably hone her skills. I have urged her to solicit her abilities as a freelance editor but that is an underpaid market that is quite saturated. I have suggested she follows Virginia Wolfe's footsteps (her favorite author) by writing novels up until the point that she drowns herself in a river. Considering she knows everything there is to know about her since part of her thesis was about her.
Everyone looking for work must broaden their search in order to gain any kind of opportunity.
