Are ya seriously asking or making fun at the Time magazine cover (which is humorous and interesting and serious).
This may be an over share but both my boys were breastfed until they were past 2 years old.
It was a serious bonding experience for my wife and those boys. My oldest stopped getting it because my wife's Dr. told her she might need to stop it to get knocked up again. He wasn't exactly 'ready' from his own point of view. My youngest mostly moved on from it on his own (he's almost 4 now).
My wife is also a lactation educator and she has helped hundreds of women (at least) with their breastfeeding. Apparently it's harder than it looks (that's what she said!).
Still; honestly DUDES.
What the hell is wrong with you people to really question anything about breastfeeding? Sure - seeing that kid (who looks as big as my youngest) hanging off that nipple is unusual but isn't this something between the parents and the kids? Breastfeeding is one of the most healthy things a mom can do for her kids ever. Period. At no point, regardless of age would I question it. I might not be comfortable with a 13 year old breastfeeding but I suspect that doesn't happen often. I've known a lot of granola style moms who don't kick the kids off her boobs early and I think the oldest I've seen out in the wild is around 4. By then, the kids themselves are ready to move on.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen people offended by a woman breastfeeding her child in public. Covered up or not - it's freaking beautiful and should be celebrated not covered up.
Lighten up America and leave the mom's alone.
Also - the topic in the magazine is 'Attachment' parenting and I think it's a pretty interesting and valid parenting concept. I've practiced some of the concepts myself with my boys.
TAKE THIS TO THE BANK!
BREASTFEEDING IS GOOD. DO IT AS LONG AS THE KID WANTS TOO AND AS LONG AS YOU CAN.
By the way, I'm totally a boob man and both my boys are too.
I wasn't breastfed though.
