agreed, you'll probably be close to 12 quarts after the tstat opens.

I'd suggest you disable the ignition system by your preferred mothod, disconnect the coil wire, unplug the CDI....I suppose you could pull the fuel pump fuse, but there's often some residual pressure....whatever your method, disable starting, crank it over on the starter motor until you see the oil pressure gauge start to move, oil pressure light should go off.....that'll get you primed.
