From what I have heard, there are side mirror captive nuts, factory installed on the inside of each door. However, these captive nuts are in place for RHD & LHD cars. Therefore, if you have a LHD car and install a passenger side mirror on the car using these captive nuts, then the view to this newly mounted mirror will be partially blocked by the door pillar. To mount a passenger side mirror on a LHD car, you'd have to mount it further forward of these captive nuts and thus, drill new holes.
I could be wrong but this it what I discovered when I was thinking of doing the samething.
