Do your homework, as suggested.

Your new door already has holes for the "plastic" mirror (probably a flag mirror) that are in the correct position but will not match the hole pattern for the 72 mirror--body work will need to be done regardless of whether or not you mount a mirror.

As warned, do not use the hole alignment found on the inside of the dog leg as your mirror will be out of position (cmcfaul has already posted his picture showing the wrong location.)

The correct position is further rearward and higher on the door. There are pictures in other threads showing the correct location for the early mirror which I will post, if I can locate them.
