I grew up eating fast because I had to.
My grandpa was a farmer, and us grandkids used to hang around with him in the summer. He'd have his usual stops at Denny's or other coffee shops. When it was time to eat, he'd order us all the same thing - like 6 Grand Slam breakfasts. Then he'd eat fast, pay and head for the truck. If you weren't in the truck when his door closed, you were left behind.
Back in those days we used to ride in the back of the pickup truck, and carry a shovel. I miss those days. I learned to not complain and to rely on myself, became un-sissyfied in a hury.
