Apparently these types of scams are a real problem. I had never heard of these until this week when my sister told me about getting a call from one. She decided to play along for a bit while he explained that he was from "Windows" and that her computers were infected. When she finally told him that they had all Macs, he abruptly hung-up.

She said that she has heard horror stories of elderly people in particular who fall for it and give up passwords, etc.
