Clark may have been a Brit. subject but first and foremost he was Scottish. Having been borne in the UK I am not proud of the British?English colonization of so many countries in its history. Little wonder that so many countries want to sever ties with their mother countries but I am sure it makes for economic barriers and therefore become less wealthy in the longrun. Then the Scottish will become more Scottish(they have a reputation for watching their money closely).
