Jyl, I completely understand your POV. For the most part, I agree. FB, however, gives me just the right amount of connection with random people and I can adjust the level individually or in groups. I can also decide whether to visit the site once a week or several times a day. Or never.

There are a lot of people from my past, and distant relatives, that the right level of connection is knowing that they're alive and seeing occasional family pics, etc. I also know a lot of interesting people from over the years that I wish I still saw but never do, FB at least provides a slight connection w/o taking up anyone's valuable time. It works well for me and apparently for many others, I can also see how it's not for everyone.
