I use a 19mm wrench on the crank pulley to rotate the engine. 914-6's have a flywheel inspection hole on top where the engine mates with the trans. If the flywheel is still from an original -6 it should be marked for setting your timing and doing valve adjustments.
Unfortunately the best way to set dwell is pull the distributor set the point gap and reinstall. I just spent an hour doing this today.
