Unless you start reloading yourself I don't think you will find commercially available ammo for under the price range you quoted. Not sure how much all the reloading equipment costs but for cheap range shooting it is hard to beat 22 caliber you can probably buy a 22 pistol for the price of the reloading equipment. I use a Ruger 22 to stay sharp and then every once in a while take the 40 S&W.
