Rubber bushings flex, yes. However, the body shell on a 911, especially early versions, aren't particularly rigid. A strut bar, roll bar or roll cage and no-compliant susp. pieces in a track car is pretty much required for added chassis rigidity and safety. For a street-based car, it's debatable and YMMV. For many, looking good and an impressive build list is half the battle.
