I always recommend the book ''The Used 911 Story'', By Peter Zimmerman.
It will get you up to speed on 911s, and show you just how important a PPI can be. When I bought my Targa, I did not get a PPI. I would up replacing the cams, as the wrong oil had been used in the engine, and I had cam lobe wear. Other than that, this 911 has been stellar, and this is a car with 227,000 miles on it. Shifts well, drives well, and has been a good runner.
Unexpected costly maintenance can be avoided in many cases with a pre purchase inspection.
