Human intervention, yes - but rumours abound concerning a nearby homestead/farmhouse that was well-known for encouraging Dingoes by putting food out etc. They were considered nomadic pets. If I recall correctly, the theory goes something like: one of these tamer Dingoes stole the child, dragged it to the farmhouse and that the folks who live there freaked out and dumped the body instead of calling the authorities.
The entire case was handled incredibly poorly.
