Why would there be a ton of waste ? Buy a piece 12x16 and cut it in half = 2 pcs. 8x12. Butt them end to end = 8x24. Install it all the way forward and cover the one foot of gap with some aluminum plate. No waste or did I miss something ? You might have to buy maybe a little more just to have a perfect seam but that should be minimal.
