I had an old set from many, many years ago (6+ years old)
They were machined with lines to give an "anodized" look.
To the touch, I think mine felt pretty smooth, though. The machining was very faint. But up close, was there for sure. I'll see if I can dig up any pictures. your machining looks much deeper/heavier than mine were, for sure.
I've seen over the years some Euromeisters that had the machining polished out, and they were smooth.
