Sounds like you have no real need for an SUV and therefore I would steer clear of them.

I note that you are living in NY. If snow driving is a concern, I strongly recommend that you purchase an extra set of wheels for whatever car you decide to purchase and shod those puppies with some high-end, dedicated snow tires - all four wheels. You will be able to go anywhere an SUV can go on snowy highways and, perhaps more important, you will stop a whole lot faster in the snow than any SUV with their stock tires. Putting snows on an Audi Quattro, say an A-6, would result in a superb winter car.
