I have owned a 1995 Range Rover LWB and currently a 1999 Disco Series II and here's my opinion boiled down quite simply.

If you want to own one of the most capable off road vehicles in the world, buy a Land Rover. This is of course assuming you want a car to go offroad, as I do frequently. Yes I agree there are alot of minor problems with these vehicles, but the engine and suspension are solid and time tested to the tune of almost 30 years (sound familiar). It's the small stuff that gets you.

If you don't intend on using the car off-road, look at the suburban SUV's like the Cherokee or Explorer. I myself prefer the sport wagons from Audi and BMW.

People are always bad mouthing Landrover's for reliability and depreciation, but I believe if you buy them for what they do best (go offroad) then you have to look past the minor maintenance problems. Us being Porsche people should understand this pretty well.

Is buying any Porsche not under warranty a sound financial decision when it comes to repairs and maintenance? I let others debate that. But I bought my 87 because Porsche makes some of the best sports car's in the world.

My .02 anyways!
