My thoughts... unless you plan on doing some off-roading, I would steer far clear of a discovery.

For a functional, well-engineeered, utilitiarian vehicle, the Audi A4 Avant Quattro is difficult to match.

My wife uses this as her daily driver -- and we use it as our ski vehicle. It has plenty of space and is excellent in the snow. We share a Tahoe house with the owner of a Discovery and with the owner of a Chevy Tahoe. There have been three nights when I was the only one who could get up the (slick) driveway -- how embarassing for them. The only time they are better off is when we get > 12 inches of heavy Sierra cement... ...and then I have difficulty.
