It was cheap back then (CNN was no powerhouse), and Sterling wanted to appeal to the smart buyer that watched international news
Well, then Iraq invaded Kuwait and our response in "Desert Storm" kept people glued to their televisions tuned to CNN for live coverage of the Baghdad bombings from Wolf Blitzer and others stationed there. It was a huge success for CNN.
If you were around back then, and watched CNN, you might recall that Sterling commercials saturated the coverage. Almost every commercial break featured Sterling. You couldn't escape it.
The exact same car the Sterling was based on, the Acura Legend, solidified Acura's success. However, Sterling circled the bowl pretty quickly thereafter......even with all that exposure.
