What would a 1984 911 GT3 have looked like?
I have been thinking about this lately. If Porsche had built a GT3 in 84,85,86 based on a Carrera what would the specs have looked like?
I figure somewhere between a 73 RS and a 2004 GT3.
So what was Porsche racing back then? looks like mostly turbo stuff? was there any Normally aspirated race cars?
I guess the 87 and 88 CS are close? maybe the RSA is a bench mark?
Both seem tame compared to the RS and the GT3?
Maybe something like this (in Europe)?
Interior:
Light weight minimal, racy bucket seats, rear roll bar, no sun roof.
maybe some thinner glass just to make it a little special?
extra gauges? maybe CHT gauges?
Exterior:
narrow body
FG bumpers? would this have been legal in Europe?
Light weight rear deck? what style do you think? Carrera? Bigger?
factory rolled fenders?
Less sound deadening?
No rocker covers?
What else?
Engine:
Tough one, maybe a twin plug with an extra 1/2 pt compression and wilder cams?
lighter twin out more open exhaust?
Maybe 3.4 litres?
I am thinking they would target ~20% more horse power than the 231 that came on the regular 911 of the time.
Would they use motronic? seems like cost would of gone too high going to something more.
Lighter weight clutch and flywheel assembly?
Suspension.
This is very interesting?
What were the race cars running back then?
Maybe just the turbo set up tuned for the lighter car.
Low, very low, maybe raised spindles etc. to maintain geometry.
Wheels:
16x8 frt special offset and 16x9 turbo fuchs on the rear
The more I think about it the more i wonder if they would even build it. It may have beat the turbo ;-)
What do you guys think?
I am figuring a price delta (%) about the same as the current gap between a 997 and a GT3 (I think its about 25%) so it cant be NASA stuff.
There is a number of cars on the board that have the look for sure.
