I have an external backup hard drive and there are a couple files now that can't be erased or otherwise modified. It appears that they are still usable, but they are old revisions of Solidworks parts. I was able to copy the new versions to a new folder on the hard drive and am able to routinely erase and update that. I also have them on an old USB thumb drive -- 2GB. It sounds like the spinning platter hard drive has had that problem with it wearing out. I guess with the age of the flash drive (about 5 years I think) that I should look for another in case it goes bad. The hard drive is only about a year and a half old.
When a hard drive wears out like that is it magnetic hysteresis? Not enough voltage/current to reorient the domain?
