Actually, yes.
It is a more significant step in that direction that you might realize.
The breakthrough gives chemists (and after all, what is chemistry but physics) a tool that could allow direct "targeting" of atomic and molecular interactions that form the basis of the unwanted biochemical interactions that cause cancer cells to be created and multiply.
This is not science fiction, as research institution are working on next generation medical treatments based more and more on the actual structure of matter.
P-chem & O-chem have come a long way since I was in school.
