Road bikes- the best thing for us fat old bastards. Easy on knees, ankles and backs. One hour at race pace 20mph burns nearly 1300 calories. Walking, running and swimming dont go anywhere near this. Rowing does. To hold your weight static you need to limit calories to about 1900 per day (IIRC) To lose 2lbs per week, you need to take 1200 cals per day. So, having done an hour on the bike today, Ive got 2500 to splurge. (1200 allowed + 1300 burned). As much Coopers Sparkling Ale and pizza as I like tonight.
Its just an equation. If you eat this, you cant eat that. There is a really neat little phone app called "myfitnesspal" which is really good for this stuff.
