Yep...
Two and 1/2 years ago I finally decided to do something about my naked self in the mirror. I was 48 years old and am 5'11" and weighed 234#. No one thought of me as fat--all of my extra weight (so it seemed) was centered in my belly but I am broad-shouldered and carried it fairly well.
Started going to the gym 5 days a week for weight training. Eliminated fried and processed foods as well as fat-laden goodies, and lost 30# in the first 90 days.
Was doing cardio after weights all five days, then my trainer suggested I reduce that to every other day so as not to lose too much additional weight.
Began running in earnest 6 months ago and now my routine is this:
- Weight training 5 days per week; two muscle groups per day (Push/pull)
- 7 Mile run Mon-weds-fri.
- I try to run a 5k every month and a 10k every other month. I have also now gotten back into biking and running adventure races like Tough Mudder.
It truly is addictive and I have never been a gym guy prior to this. It was all about commitment and once you see the results you simply cannot revert to your old self. Current weight 180# and 12% body fat. 32" waist.
I am one bad-assed 50 year-old if I do say so myself. My 37 year-old wife does not disagree.
