Times Square, South something or other seaport, Chinatown, Empire State building. I remember seeing trash in the streets and pretty much the whole place smelled like garbage. I am not joking. It truly was nasty.
That said.... it sounds like maybe it is a bit cleaner now in 2012? Doesn't really matter as I have no reason to go back and would rather spend precious vacation time in the mountains/secluded spots away from the hustle/bustle of city life.
Different strokes and all that I guess.
