Well, I wouldn't have allowed a dealer to service a watch. Ever think it was the watch maker the dealer used, and not the watch?
The band would have lasted a lot longer had you kept it clean. Gold is soft, so it does wear faster. Still, I've owned Rolex watches with 18kt bands that were still tight after 20 years. It's all in how they are adjusted, how they are used and how they are maintained.
I've had probably a dozen of their watches and all of them kept good time. The most recent one I bought is an Explorer I. When it was new, it would neither gain or lose a second each day. It was dead nuts on; easily the most accurate mechanical watch I've ever owned.
