I don't see it as an advantage. Not sure it's a disadvantage either since has has always done it that way and doesn't play a ton of chords.

Jimi did not play with the strings upside down, just a righty guitar flipped for lefty with the strings proper

Albert king also played with the strings upside down, and played very well
